I stayed a couple nights in Palenque so I spent a day walking the ruins outside of town. These were quite a bit different from what I had seen at Monte Alban outside of Oaxaca. The landscape was a lot different, dense woods/jungle and more water. Monte Alban was built on top a mountain and water was collected or hauled up from a river a few km away. Here they had an aqueduct which flowed through the city. Also much more touristy, there were many vendors located inside the grounds and they were all selling the same cheap tourist souvenirs. There was also a museum with artifacts located at the entrance.

Morning coffee on my patio I could hear the clatter of parrots flying overhead and off in the distance the howler monkeys were waking up and grouping for the days activities.
